Technology Partners in Profile: MediData
MediData enables invoices to be exchanged securely and efficiently within the Swiss healthcare system. Through its partnership with Compassana, healthcare providers will be able to send invoice copies directly to their patients' Compassana app.

We regularly introduce our technology partners. Today, we turn the spotlight on MediData. The company brings together healthcare providers and other stakeholders in the Swiss healthcare system and enables the digital delivery of invoices and documents.
The digital delivery of invoice copies depends on the channel used – via a patient portal, eBill or by post. MediData's infrastructure already supports a wide range of delivery channels through which invoice copies are automatically sent to patients. Compassana now adds another option, enabling patients to receive their invoice copies digitally and directly.
Invoice copies in the Compassana app
Healthcare providers who process their invoices through MediData can activate Compassana as a digital delivery channel in the MediData customer portal. Once activated, the process runs automatically: if the patient has a Compassana account, the invoice copy is automatically added to their personal Compassana Timeline, where it is securely stored.
With Compassana as an additional channel, patients and healthcare providers benefit from the following:
- Availability: The invoice copy remains available in the Compassana app for much longer than through other channels.
- Security: Documents are stored securely in the patient's personal Compassana Timeline.
- Cost savings: Every digital delivery reduces the costs and effort associated with paper, materials and postage.
- Transparency: Patients can view their invoices in the Compassana app at any time.
More than a digital invoice copy
The invoice copy is therefore stored alongside other personal health information – in the Compassana app. There, it remains available for much longer than through other channels. There is no need to download it from a separate portal or keep a paper copy.
The invoice itself is not the only information made available digitally. The associated information is also stored in a structured format in the patient's personal Timeline. This enables patients to see what treatment they received and when, and to view their health information clearly in one place.
Automatic delivery
Compassana is directly connected to the MediData infrastructure. After Compassana has been activated as a delivery channel, the system automatically checks whenever an invoice is sent whether the patient has a Compassana account.
If they have a Compassana account, the invoice copy is transmitted to Compassana through a secure interface and made available in the app. If they do not have a Compassana account, the invoice continues to be delivered through one of the previously selected channels. After this one-time activation, the check is carried out automatically whenever an invoice is sent, without healthcare providers having to do anything further.
“By adding Compassana as a delivery channel, we are giving patients another way to receive their invoice copies digitally. They receive their copy in the same place where they already manage their health data,” says Stefan Eggimann, Product Manager at MediData.
The solution is suitable for a wide range of healthcare providers, including medical practices, hospitals, residential and nursing care homes, Spitex services, therapists, pharmacies, laboratories and dental practices.
